Can you hear the siren's song...
I wanted to carved an Undine. Carving the scales and hair texture took time but the sanding took even longer! I'm not fond of sanding but I stuck with it, returning many times, after stopping, as it bored me to almost tears and made my hands numb with the constant pressure.
I used different painting and staining techniques and layers upon layers of colour. I aged it with sanding and water rubbing and I am happy with how she turned out. 40 inches tall.
Inspired by sailing ship figureheads, this
Water Spirit was carved and painted with all the old myths and folklore running
through my thoughts. Half human, half fish, merefolk folklore is found in many cultures,
including Europe, Asia, and Africa. These Undines are sometimes feared but have
been desired by lonely sailors for centuries.
